Typical NDT Scopes of Work
New Construction/Fabrication

Certified Weld Inspector (CWI)
to witness and confirm welding is being performed as designed in engineer drawings and specifications.

Vendor Surveillance
Quality Inspections confirming all materials utilized and the workmanship of installation meets the design requirements.

Positive Material Identification (PMI)
to confirm material meets stated metallurgical requirements.

Weld Quality
X-ray or Ultrasound code weld testing as required by contract requirements which normally identify the defects of poor workmanship in welding processes such as incomplete penetration or lack of penetration, lack of fusion or side wall lack of fusion, porosity or slag, or inclusions, and of course cracking due to improper techniques.

Process Safety Management (PSM)
OSHA 1910 requires certain covered equipment to be controlled under the company Mechanical Integrity Plan (MIP) and good engineering practice which requires obtaining NDT data to evaluate the overall condition of equipment, manage details of repairs, and ultimately continue to utilize the equipment for continued service.

American Petroleum Institute (API)
when it comes to routine inspection and mechanical integrity on tanks, piping, and pressure vessels most customers turn to the guidelines written in API for how to inspect and repair the tanks (API 653), Piping (API 570) and Pressure Vessels (API 510).

Thickness surveys
using a variety of NDT tools to determine the actual thickness of the material and the measurement of material thickness losses (wastage) due to corrosion, erosion, and wear from being in-service.

Cracking
finding service induced fatigue or stress related cracking which is anticipated based on the frequency of stress loads and cycles of the various equipment while in operation. These cracks are found on the surface with economical testing methods such as Visual, Penetrant or Magnetic Particle Testing NDT Methods and cracking suspected below the surface or in inaccessible areas to the human eye use more advanced approaches to NDT such as borescopes, videoscopes, Ultrasonic, Eddy Current and X-ray Testing Methods.

Corrosion
finding areas of thinning to allow for repair cut out and replace or simply weld buildup to ensure strength and reliability of continued operation of equipment.

Welds
